"I can hear what you can´t see" – Ringing walls 14.07.2008
(djd) Even at a time when big screens in the form of plasma, LCD, TVs and video projectors have long become commonplace, it still sounds like science fiction: Sound coming out of the whole wall. Yet it is a couple of years ago now that the so-called Soundboards won the Innovation Award of Baden-Württemberg, and nowadays they can simply be bought. The technology developed by puren gmbh makes it possible to build flat panel sound systems which are so slim that they simply disappear into the wall (info: www.pursonic.de).
The installation does away with the jumble of cables and big loudspeakers which take up an inordinate amount of room. And the sound produced by the 7 mm or so flat Soundboards doesn’t need to hide itself behind conventional loudspeakers. Quite the opposite, in fact – they produce an expansive, three-dimensional rich sound other systems can’t manage. So-called bending waves uniformly permeate even those rooms with an acoustically unfavourable layout. In principle it is just as easy to flush-mount the boards as it is to put up plasterboard. Round, oval and diamond-shaped inserts are also possible and it is even possible to adapt the board on site. Surfaces can be designed to match the rest of the wall without losing their sound, for example with fine plasters, wallpapers, veneers, thin metal and plastic surfaces, paint, textiles and even mirrors.
